What to do while you wait for your appointment
Pain
An ordinary painkiller may help. Avoid aspirin if the gum is bleeding. Never put a tablet directly on the tooth or the gum.
Broken tooth
Keep the fragment in saline or milk. Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water and avoid chewing on that side.
Knocked-out tooth
An adult tooth can sometimes be put back if you act fast. Hold it by the crown, never the root, keep it in milk and call straight away.
Swelling or fever
Facial swelling, or a fever alongside dental pain, needs to be seen the same day. Call without waiting.

At night, on Sundays and on public holidays, dial 15. You can also reach your département’s on-call dental service; the departmental council of the Ordre has the contact details.
